This NEW nationally recognised Skill Set is designed to address the skills and knowledge required for those delivering vocational education and training (VET) to learners in a school environment.

As a qualified Secondary School teacher this Skill Set could be your key to delivering training and assessment within the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. As a result of amendments to the Standards for RTOs 2015 which came into effect on 1 March 2024, Secondary School teachers are no longer required to attain a full Certificate IV in Training & Assessment to teach and assess VET.

This skill set is designed for individuals who are existing secondary school teachers who hold a Bachelor of Education degree or higher, who require VET-specific knowledge and skills and want to begin training and assessing within the VET sector.

Amendments to the Standards for RTOs 2015, effective from 1 March 2024, now advise that Secondary School teacher’s with the relevant qualifications may now attain only the TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set or TAESS00024 VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set to be eligible to train and assess within the VET Sector.

As of 1 March 2024 trainers and assessors must hold:

  • TAE40116 / TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor or
  • TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment plus the following units:
    • TAELLN411 (or its successor) or TAELLN401A and
    • TAEASS502 (or its successor) or TAEASS502A or TAEASS502B or
  • a diploma or higher level qualification in adult education. Or
  • a credential issued by a higher education provider (as defined by section 16-1 of the Higher Education Support Act 2003) which would enable the individual to satisfy the academic requirements for registration as a secondary school teacher in accordance with the registration requirements in at least one State or Territory, and one of the following credentials or the successor to one of the following credentials:
    • TAESS00011 / TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set
    • TAESS00024 VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a suitable pathway if you can provide evidence that you have all the skills, knowledge and experience for this unit. You must check your eligibility for this pathway prior to enrolment.

RPL is an assessment only process that is designed for those who possess substantial existing skills and knowledge in a specific industry. It allows people to demonstrate their competence in these skills without first having to be trained. Our RPL kit is based on a combination of evidence submission and a competency interview conducted via phone.

As part of this design unit students will gain critical skills allowing them to use nationally recognised training to meet vocational training needs. This is an essential skill when designing effective training.

Students will analyse two client’s training needs, prepare and document a training needs analysis, and have their analysis reviewed by a peer AND document their feedback. You are sure to be set up for design success with a start like this!

Please be aware of the below interaction requirements for Distance+ course students:

  • Access to a client to provide feedback (can be a friend, colleague or fellow student)
  • Feedback must be documented and submitted for assessment

As part of this design unit students will have the chance to experience what it takes to design and develop training and assessment programs. For those interested in program design, this unit is sure to get you excited.

Students will develop two vocational training and assessment programs covering a national unit of competency, and finalise their plan in consultation with a stakeholder.

Please be aware of the below interaction requirements for Distance+ course students:

  • Access to a stakeholder to finalise your plan (this can be a friend, colleague or fellow student)

As part of this unit students will gain the knowledge they require to operate successfully within the vocational education and training (VET) sector regulatory and operational context relevant to the job role of an entry-level VET teacher, trainer and assessor. This unit is incredibly important to help trainers and assessors navigate the strict regulations within the industry.

Students will identify the range of learner cohorts undertaking training and create a vocational professional development plan to maintain competencies, industry currency and knowledge and create VET professional development plan to maintain their skills and a trainer and assessor.

Please be aware of the below interaction requirements for Distance+ course students:

  • Access to at least three learners to participate in a group discussion (these may be friends, colleagues or fellow students)
  • Discussion with your three learners must be recorded and submitted for assessment

As part of this unit students will gain valuable skills in how to plan, prepare for and conduct the competency-based assessment of candidates. The ability to assess the competence of candidates is invaluable in the process of passing on knowledge and expertise. As soon-to-be trainers and assessors being able to confirm students will understand the theory of what they have learnt and are capable of putting it into practice is an exciting way to start the assessment process.

Please be aware of the below interaction requirements for Distance+ course students:

  • Access to three different candidates to undertake assessments and provide feedback (can be friends, colleagues or fellow students)
  • The undertaking of assessments must be recorded and submitted for assessment

As part of this unit students will participate in assessment validation of assessment processes and tools, including before they are first used with candidates and after having been used with candidates.

Students will hold a planning meeting with their validation team which must be conducted live with a suitably qualified TAE Assessor to lead the validations. Students will also undertake the validation of three assessment tools with their validation team.

Please be aware of the below interaction requirements for Distance+ course students:

  • Attend a one-day online interactive iClass+ workshop covering the validation meeting for unit TAEASS413

OR

  • Organise your own assessment candidates and undertake these assessment activities independently or in a workplace subject to the following:
    • You must have access to someone who will supervise you undertaking these assessment activities, and who possesses either:
      • The TAE50111 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training; or
      • The TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training; or
      • The TAE50211 Diploma of Training Design and Development; or
      • The TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development; or
      • A higher-level qualification in adult education.

Duration: Students undertaking training have Six months from their enrolment date to complete their studies and submit all assessment workbooks for this course. RPL candidates have six months from their enrolment date to complete their RPL interview and submit all required evidence. (Students may extend the duration of their enrolment on a month-by-month basis – extra fees apply as detailed in our schedule of fees.) Students may complete and submit their assessment workbooks at any time during their enrolment.

Assessment turnaround: The turnaround time for assessment submissions received by Plenty Training is approximately 20 working days from the date it is received. The time frame can vary depending on the number of assessment submissions being received at any given time. Once a student has been deemed competent in all units they will be issued with their qualification within 30 calendar days.

Workload: This represents the notional duration of all activities required for the achievement of the learning outcomes. For students completing the TAESS00024 VET Delivered to school students teacher enhancement Skill Set the Volume of Learning is between 250 – 750 hours. This means a typical student will complete this course over Six months with a minimum of 10 hours a week for the 26 weeks.

All pathways: The following entry prerequisites apply to all students undertaking this course:

  • It is recommended this skill set is completed by individuals who are existing secondary school teachers who hold a Bachelor of Education degree or higher, who require VET-specific knowledge and skills.
  • You must have:
    • An appropriate level of English language skill which is important to the likelihood of participant success
    • Access to a computer (with Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word and a web browser installed)
    • Access to the internet
    • Access to a video and audio recording device such as a smart phone or web cam
    • An understanding of how to use Microsoft Word and Adobe Reader, be able to download, scan and upload documents, and know how to access online materials.
  • To successfully complete this course you must be able to independently complete the following:
    • Able to use Word, open PDF’s, save, rename and move files around, download and upload files in online systems and be comfortable to learn new programs and technology
    • Search and read a range of information from the internet using sites such as training.gov.au
    • Have access to a computer or laptop (a phone or tablet is not sufficient) and are comfortable to use this without guidance
    • Write a range of different documents including learning programs, session plans, describing contents and ideas, outlining reasons and opinions and developing resources such as powerpoints, handouts, quizzes and observation checklists
    • Be creative and have problem solving abilities so you can adapt and find solutions

Distance+ course (recorded webinar plus self-paced learning):

Unit TAEASS413 Participate in assessment validation requires you to undertake assessment validations under the guidance of a qualified trainer and assessor. You may either:

  • Attend an online interactive workshop provided by Plenty Training in which you may undertake these assessment activities (attendance at one of these regularly-scheduled workshops is included in your course fee); This workshop is delivered via the Adobe Connect platform.
    • Students who choose to attend the online TAEASS413 assessment workshop must also have access to a computer enabled with audio and webcam functionality,

OR

  • Undertake these assessment activities independently or in a workplace, subject to the following:
    • You must have access to someone who possesses either (1) the TAE50111/TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or (2) the TAE50211/TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development or (3) a higher level qualification in adult education, and is willing to supervise you undertaking these assessment activities. This person must be able to provide a copy of their qualification, evidence that they have current industry skills directly relevant to assessments, have current knowledge and skills in vocational training and learning, and have undertaken recent professional development in the fields of the knowledge and practice of competency based training and assessment.

RPL candidates:  You will be required to demonstrate that you have prior skills, knowledge and experience in the units for this qualification. You must first check your eligibility to enrol in RPL for this qualification. Please check your TAESS00024 eligibility prior to enrolment.
