Graduate Spotlight: Kirrily Alexander – from hands-on care to leading classrooms.

Meet Kirrily Alexander, a dedicated professional whose journey from disability worker to empowering educator is a testament to the transformative power of a TAE qualification. Working in the disability sector, Kirrily decided to enhance her impact by becoming a qualified trainer and assessor. This decision led her to undertake a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment with Plenty Training, a move that would redefine her career path.

“I wanted to be a qualified trainer and assessor for students completing disability and individual support,” Kirrily recalls. Her motivation was clear, but the journey was filled with memorable challenges and achievements.

One of the most vivid memories from her time at Plenty Training was the face-to-face workshops. “They supported my level of computer skills,” she explains. But it was the exposure to a diverse range of trainers that truly enriched her learning experience. “Hearing from different trainers provided additional support and unique perspectives that were incredibly valuable,” Kirrily adds. Each trainer brought their own expertise and teaching style, offering Kirrily a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter and practical applications.

The coursework and support from the Plenty Training team played a crucial role in her growth. “I gained experience in mapping, validating, and teaching students with various LLN needs,” says Kirrily. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. “I initially found the validation and assessment component difficult,” she admits. Through extra reading and perseverance, she overcame these challenges, demonstrating her commitment to mastering her new skills.

Kirrily’s journey was bolstered by the supportive environment at Plenty Training. “From enrolment through to completion, I felt connected and supported,” she shares. This sense of community was instrumental in her success.

Since attaining her qualification, Kirrily has flourished in her career. She now works as an RTO Trainer and Assessor for Disability and Individual Support, a role where she applies the thorough teaching she received at Plenty Training. Her dedication and approachable teaching style have earned her great feedback from students, helping them achieve the skills required in the sector.

Reflecting on her journey, Kirrily has some advice for current and future students: “The best thing I did was pursuing this qualification. I sometimes wonder if I should have done it earlier in my career.” Her story is a testament to the impact of education and the importance of seizing opportunities for growth.
